Dating Benjamin Schmidt

Since things went so well with Benjamin the first time, Miriam decided to invite him over. They stood in her kitchen and just talked. Benjamin definitely needs a makeover at some point.

Miriam thought things were going so well, that she went a little too far for a first date.

This is not a happy face.

Benjamin was not happy at all. Apparently he thought they were just friends? Anyway, he left shortly after that, and Miriam was left unhappy and confused. She didn't understand why Benjamin was not receptive to the kiss. He had been more than happy to flirt with her for a whole afternoon before.

Miriam left Benjamin alone for awhile and continued to work on her novels and make some more money to further furnish her house. She's written two Science Fiction novels so far, and improved her writing skill significantly.

The season changed to fall and then winter before Miriam heard from Benjamin again. This time, he called to ask her on a date. Since the Winter Festival was in town, Miriam suggested they go ice skating there.

Benjamin showed up, not properly dressed for the season. He was probably freezing. But he appeared to have a change of heart about Miriam, because instead of going skating, he started flirting with her. Miriam thought it might be best to try again for that first kiss. She does have the Brave trait.

It went much better this time.

Building a House

Miriam has been hard at work on improving her writing and earning some money so she can afford a house. This is what her hard earned cash has gotten her.

It's pretty hideous so far. I built it off to the side of the lot, so I would room to expand and build a nicer house from scratch once Miriam and her future family have more funds. This starter house is built using roof pieces on the ground for the main structure, with walls connecting the roofing together to give it a finished room look. Miriam will, afterall, need to be sheltered from the elements. Winter is coming.

As you can see, the floor plan is nothing fancy. Miriam has the basics she needs to survive. Most of the house is just one large room, with the exception of a separate bathroom. This is because Miriam expects to have some company every now and then. Also, you can see I didn't recolour any objects. I figured I'm going to build her a bigger and better house from scratch anyway, so there was no point.

Benjamin Schmidt

Miriam took a taxi over to the Schmidt residence.

(Not a bad looking house for EA)

Miriam is Brave, so she had no qualms about going over without knowing him first. She needed to get to know more people in the neighbourhood after all. And it would be better for her if these new people she met were single men.

Anyway, Benjamin Schmidt came out of his house to meet her and invited Miriam inside.

Miriam stared at him creepily from behind as they walked into the house. He really isn't that bad looking. He might be a good partner for Miriam. It depends on how they interact.

Miriam: How do you think I'd look with wings?

Miriam starts out chatting with Benjamin and makes a lot a weird gestures.

Benjamin: I think your wingspan would need to be a little bit wider...

Benjamin reacted well and the two really start to hit it off. So much so, that without prompting from me, the two immediately started flirting. Also, it appears that Benjamin has a dog named Ralston. Miriam is not sure how she feels about that. She might not be ready for a dog yet. After all, she's still living in the fire department.

Bejamin: It was really brave of you to come to over to my house. I'll admit, it was a little weird at first, but  I think you're pretty awesome.

Miriam: I think you're pretty awesome too. I'd love to get to know you better.

They kept up the unprompted flirting for awhile, before I eventually sent Miriam home. It looks like Miriam has forgot about her brief encounter with Booker Singleton.

Meeting New People in Appaloosa Plains

Miriam has been constantly writing, in a frenzy to make some money. She's become quite skilled at writing, as has already earned a small amount of money. Almost enough for me to consider building her a house. Recently though, she's has decided to stop hanging around the fire station and to get out and meet some new people in Appaloosa Plains. She really does need some friends. She's been here for almost a week, and hasn't met anyone interesting.I sent her to the library, so she can also work on her latest novel while scoping out the townies.

While there, she meets Booker Singleton.

He seems cute, except for those sun glasses. Who wears sunglasses indoors? Anyway, he seems nice. A potential mate for Miriam? I'm pretty sure he's single. After all, his last name is Singleton.

Miriam immediately starts to chat with him about her writing.

Miriam: A quill with ink is just so classic!

Unfortunately, Booker decided to leave shortly after this. I let Miriam go back to her writing for another day.

Miriam: I wish I could write with a quill and ink. Although these computers are so much faster...

I did hear the Benjamin Schmidt is a good-looking male sim in town. I might have to find his house and send Miriam over to visit him. I don't necessarily like to force my sims to meet in such a way, but Miriam isn't getting any younger and she would like to start a family soon. After all, isn't that the point of a legacy?

Living Without a House

Remember how Miriam was without a house? Well I found a solution that saves her money, while also satisfying all her needs. She's currently living in the Appaloosa Plains fire station...

(If I didn't know any better, I would have just assumed this was a barn.)

It's not ideal, but this community lot has everything that's necessary for sim survival, and basic skill building. It's also always empty. Miriam finds this concerning. It seems Appaloosa Plains has no fire fighters. Who is going to save Miriam's kitchen when the stove catches on fire because she can't cook? Not that she has a kitchen right now... She doesn't even have a stove.

Another thing Miriam doesn't have - a job. Since her lifetime wish is to become a Professional Author, it seems prudent that she start building her writing skill now. Conveniently, there's a small office with a computer on the first floor of the fire station. Miriam starts off writing her first fiction novel .

Miriam: I swear, this will be the best first novel ever! It will be a masterpiece!

I also send her to enroll herself as a self-employed writer at City Hall. I don't think this actually does anything in terms of giving her money. It really just gives her a title and prevents her from getting any other job. Miriam is going to be a starving artist. She'll have to live in the fire station for awhile until she can make any money to build a house.

Work in Progress

I took a break from playing my legacy to get some building done.

This is one of the builds I have in progress. As you can see, it's pretty far along. This is one of the more technically challenging builds I have done. There's a lot of CFE going on to create a more layered effect with the roof. I'm quite happy with it so far.

I have most of the first floor interior done, as well the second floor layout. It's a two bedroom, two bathroom home located (for now) in Sunset Valley. It's a modern style home with a fairly contemporary interior. When it's done, it should be perfect for a small family. Here's a preview of the kitchen:

In the second bedroom I'm planning on putting some bunk beds in, to add in some extra sleeping room.I may move it to a bigger lot once I start working on the landscaping. I think the space might be needed.

The Start of a Legacy

I have started a Legacy, and I want to keep a regularly updated blog to keep track of them. Mostly for my own uses. I don't know if anyone will ever actually read this.

This blog won't just be a legacy story - although it's what I'm occupied with right now. I also intend to use this blog to post general updates about my Sims 3 experience. My first love with the Sims is building. I realize I'm a little late to the game, with the Sims 4 coming out in less than a year. Oh well. Nothing I can do about that.

Anyways, on to my legacy...

This is the founder of my legacy. Her name is Miriam Atlas. I guess you could call this the start of the 'Atlas Legacy.'

Miriam Atlas has the following traits: Brave, Neurotic, Loves the Outdoors, Bookworm and Hopeless Romantic. Her lifetime wish is to be a Professional Author. So basically, she's me. Actually, this sim is my latest attempt at a 'Sim Self'. I changed her name though.

For those interested, here's a nice collage of her outfits (I don't use CC, so all of the below is complete EA content):

Miriam just moved to Appaloosa Plains. Why Appaloosa you ask? It could be that she wanted a quiet place to work on her writing career. Or it could be that I arbitrarily placed her there because I've never really played in Appaloosa Plains before. Either way, she's in Appaloosa Plains for life.

I quickly realized that there are no good legacy lots in Appaloosa plains. At least none that are 60x60, worth 14,700 and would give that 'nice view' moodlet (I think that's what it's called?). So I made some adjustments. Since my computer (I'm playing on a Macbook Pro) really can't handle 60x60 anyway, I decided to go with a 50x50. I can build a large house on that without feeling overwhelmed with space. It did only cost me $5000. I know a Legacy is supposed to start with only $1300, so I used the family funds cheat to change the amount Miriam had once she bought the lot.

The lot I chose is located at 27 Gentrify Lane. I had to move PaddingtonHouse and the Bedlington Family to the empty lot beside it. I liked the location, how it had it's own little road to it (charming, no?) and how there were not too many other houses nearby. This means my future Legacy house can stand out as the prime house in the neighbourhood.

For now, however, the lot is empty.

Miriam: It's so empty! Where will I live?!

All in good time Miriam...
